Beat the Competition with IEP

New York State offers a matching grant program called the Industrial Effectiveness Program (IEP) to qualified manufacturing firms and industry groups that have competitive problems and whose management/labor are committed to making the changes necessary for long-term viability.

IEP project assistance is available for:

Productivity assessments--to identify problems and implement solutions for increasing productivity and competitiveness; and,
Feasibility studies--to evaluate the potential for local buyouts by employees or management for corporate restructurings or turnarounds.

Assessments or studies are conducted by manufacturing consultants selected by the company on a competitive basis. Project costs, including consultant fees, the firm's in-kind costs, and other project-related direct expenses are shared between the IEP and firm.

IEP productivity assessments range from short-term consulting to help solve specific, one-time problems of a specialized nature to general diagnostic overviews of a firm's operations to the implementation of productivity improvements. Depending on the size of the company and the scope of the project, up to $50,000 can be awarded for an IEP.

IEP feasibility studies can be conducted as preliminary diagnoses of problems, opportunities and financial viability to in-depth evaluations of a firm's potential profitability for a local buyout, corporate restructuring or turnaround.

The IEP also offers educational programs on current issues concerning industrial competitiveness, access to specialized industrial expertise, and a newsletter that features "best practice" information and case histories of successful improvements. In addition, through the auspices of the CNYTDO, the IEP coordinates with local, state and federal resources and provides assistance in skills training, export marketing, procurement, defense diversification, strategic industry group projects, manufacturing networks, and financing. For more information on the IEP, including assistance in preparing a grant application or technical help on any manufacturing topic, contact Ron Kline, George Tennant or Bob Weller at the CNYTDO.
