SBIR's "Fast Track"
Program Bridges Funding Caps

A common problem experienced by winners of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I awards has been the funding gap between Phase I and Phase II. Now, effective with its latest solicitation, the Department of Defense (DoD) has launched SBIR Fast Track, a two-year pilot program to address this issue.

Companies that, during Phase I, attract independent third party investors that will match both Phase II SBIR funding and interim SBIR funding (between Phase I and II) qualify for the SBIR Fast Track. Benefits include:

* Interim funding of $30,000 to $50,000 between Phases I and II;

* The DoD's highest priority for Phase II SBIR funding; and,

* An expedited Phase II selection process and, upon selection, an expedited Phase II award.
